Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas served as his party’s “whip” from 2013 until the start of 2019. During that time it was Cornyn’s job to get Republican Senators to vote the way Mitch McConnell wanted on key legislation.
That means Cornyn was a key figure in making sure Republicans created gridlock in Washington and voted against anything the administration wanted during President Obama’s second term. Cornyn was also the one rounding up Republican votes to pass Donald Trump’s terrible tax scam and confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
