GOP senators are finally grasping the notion that the US is the only industrialized nation to not offer paid family leave. Their latest proposal, the “Cradle Act” rolled out today by Senators Joni Ernst and Mike Lee, enables new parents to take paid time off after the birth or adoption of a child. But the proposed program taps into those parents’ Social Security savings–meaning a forced delay to their retirement.
