Republican Senator Cindy Hyde Smith’s comments about one of her supporters in her home state of Mississippi, which has a long and disturbing history of racially motivated lynchings.
Republican Senator Cindy Hyde Smith of Mississippi narrowly survived a series of racially insensitive controversies and a hard-fought run off election against her Democratic opponent in 2018 to hold onto her Senate seat in a deep red state.
Now she must turn around and run again in 2020, where her past controversies and votes on Trump’s tax scam and to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court are sure to make for a difficult re-election.
“I believe Judge Kavanaugh when he says these events never happened, not three decades ago, not ever…It seems opponents of Judge Kavanaugh are engaged in character assassination.”
